Director, New Forests Asia
Paul Speed, Director, New Forests Asia, is co-portfolio manager of New Forests' forestry investments in Asia and the tropical Pacific. His specialities include forest due diligence process, investment appraisal and operational management. Paul's experience spans nearly 20 years, primarily in plantation and natural forest management in tropical Asia Pacific but also includes time spent in the more temperate areas of Oceania, Africa and Central America. Before joining New Forests in 2008, Paul was a Senior Consultant with Poyry Forest Industries for seven years based first in New Zealand and then in Singapore. His worked focused on valuation and appraisals, feasibility studies and due diligences covering planted and natural forests throughout Asia Pacific with exposure also to both Africa and Central America. Prior to Poyry, Paul was a manager with the Commonwealth Development Corporation seconded to Kolombangara Forest Products Limited (KFPL) in the Solomon Islands for nine years. KFPL became the first FSC certified plantation forest in the tropical Asia Pacific in 1998. Paul gained his bachelor's degree in Pure and Applied Biology from Oxford University in 1991 and an MSc in Forestry also from Oxford in 1993. He is a full member of the New Zealand Institute of Forestry and the Incorporated Society of Planters in Malaysia. Paul is based in Singapore.
