Dr. Nick O'Brien

Director, Resource Management Systems

Nick O'Brien, Director, Resource Management Systems, is a leading expert in forestry carbon accounting and leads New Forests' technical capabilities in portfolio, forestry estate and carbon modeling. In this role, he directs the modeling and quantitative analysis in New Forests' acquisition and funds management process and works with the operational team on ongoing asset management. He leads an experienced team in Sydney and regional offices to ensure that New Forests applies a consistent and high-quality analytical approach to timber management and, where possible, added value through carbon products for regulatory and voluntary markets. Before joining New Forests, Nick was responsible for developing the carbon accounting system that enabled State Forests NSW to become one of the first forestry organizations to register as an Abatement Certificate Provider under the New South Wales regulatory carbon scheme. He has advised businesses and governments on carbon markets and implications for forestry investment and landscape rehabilitation. Nick has a Bachelor and a PhD in Forest Science from the University of Melbourne. He is based in Sydney.
