Merril Halley
Project Manager, Malua Biobank
Merril Halley is an independent contractor supporting project management for the Malua Biobank, an innovative joint partnership between the Sabah Government and the Eco Products Fund and managed by New Forests that protects 34,000 ha of threatened lowland rainforest within Sabah, Malaysia. Merril has nearly 20 years experience working in conservation, primarily in Australia and in Southeast Asia. Prior to joining New Forests she worked with the Department of Sustainability and Environment in Victoria, Australia on the development of innovative biodiversity policy and biodiversity conservation programs. She also worked with WWF Cambodia on an Asian Development Bank project in the remote eastern part of the country on community livelihood and community forestry projects within protected areas. She previously held a curatorial position at one of Australia's leading wildlife sanctuaries, including coordinating numerous threatened species recovery programs. Merril has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Monash University and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Management from Deakin University and is presently studying for a Masters' in Environmental Management through distance education at Charles Sturt University. She is based in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.
