Darius Sarshar
Director, New Forests Asia
Darius Sarshar, Director, New Forests Asia, is a portfolio manager for New Forests' forestry assets in tropical Asia and is responsible for forestry acquisitions, investment committee approvals, portfolio management and fund governance. He also oversees implementation of the Social and Environmental Management System and environmental market investments in Asia. This includes developing upside revenue opportunities from carbon and biodiversity for forestry assets and direct management of projects such as the Malua Wildlife Habitat Conservation Bank and REDD investments for private account clients. Darius has nearly 20 years experience working in forestry in Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe. Prior to joining New Forests, he worked as a consultant to WWF where he worked on partnerships with leading tropical forestry companies and major timber buyers, advised on certification policy and worked with leading commercial and investment banks in Asia on forestry investment policies. He has also worked as Director of the market-leading SGS global FSC certification programme, Qualifor, following periods in plantation management in the UK and Tanzania (Commonwealth Development Corporation), community forestry (Concern Worldwide, World Bank) and field biology (Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute). Darius has a Bachelor (Honours) in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, UK, an MSc in Forestry from the University of Oxford and an MBA from the Melbourne Business School. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Forest Trends Business & Biodiversity Offset Programme. He is based in Singapore.
